1. Monteverde-San Gerardo-Monteverde. Going north. With excellent views of the whole Arenal Volcano at a short distance from the porch. 2 hrs. downhill to the shelter (from 5,000 to a 2,200 feet ), the return is a hard up hill. 2 days/1 night $120 p/p (2 pers. mín.). $50 extra night p/p.

2. Monteverde-Alemán-Poco Sol. Going east. Trekking through the famous Peñas Blancas Valley. Finishing at Poco Sol can easily connect to continue trip towards La Fortuna and Arenal. 3 days (minimum) of fascinating wilderness near the Peñas Blancas River. 3 days/2 nights $170 p/p (2 pers. mín). $50 extra night p/p.

3. Monteverde-Alemán-Monteverde. Getting to the heart of the Reserve and then backtrack the following day (or later). Strong descent first day and strong ascent to come back up. 2 days/1 night $120 p/p (2 pers mín). $50 extra night p/p.
